Founded in 2016, Pennefather Films is a small independent film company based in London, England. We enjoy creating dance focused films and working on projects which explore movement and showcase new and exciting choreographies on screen. We keenly collaborate with choreographers working in a variety of dance styles.

After studying photography at Falmouth College of Art, British film-maker Alice Pennefather spent 6 years travelling and working abroad, focusing on scuba diving and filming underwater. Returning to London in 2011 she rediscovered her love of dance and now works as a freelance photographer and cinematographer. With several years experience photographing for companies such as The Royal Ballet, National Ballet of Canada, Garsington Opera and ZooNation, she has also developed her skills with moving image above and below the water on several commercials, major BBC and ITV dramas, short films and working on major features such as Tomb Raider, Kingsman, Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, The Mummy (2017), Pan and Paddington 2.

The Sun is God is Alice’s second film as a director as well as director of photography. Her debut, Dreams of Giverny achieved Official Acceptance into Other Venice, Marina del Rey, Frostbite and London International Short Film Festivals in 2017 and Rosebud Film Festival in 2018.

Ballet enthusiast and film producer Charles Haswell was born and raised in London. After a long and successful career as a company director of The David Lloyd Slazenger Racquet Club, which later became David Lloyd Leisure, he then spent 10 years as a company director of Gallery One, an art gallery with premises in London and Grayshott, Surrey.

Alongside these business successes, Charles satisfied a passion for film and television by co-founding Projector Pictures (formerly Projector Productions) with actors Trevor Eve and Sharon Maughan – for which he was also a company director. Projector Productions has achieved many successful, and a number of BAFTA nominated productions, such as Alice Through the Looking Glass (1998 Channel 4), Cinderella (2000 Channel 4), Twelfth Night, Or What You Will (2003 Channel 4), Kidnap and Ransom (2011/2012 ITV1).

English born dancer Rupert Pennefather was trained at The Royal Ballet School and graduated into The Royal Ballet Company in 1999. He was promoted to First Artist 2004, Soloist 2005, First Soloist 2006 and Principal in 2008 following his successful debut as Romeo.
His repertoire includes Crown Prince Rudolf (Mayerling), Des Grieux (Manon), Song of the Earth, Prince Siegfried (Swan Lake), Prince (Nutcracker), Prince Desiree (The Sleeping Beauty), James (La Sylphide), Believe (A Month in the Country), and Albrecht (Giselle).
As well as doing all the classics he has danced a wide range of neo-classical ballets including DGV: Dance a grande vitesse, Chroma, and Acis and Galetea (with the Royal Opera).
He has partnered some of the great ballerinas including Sylvie Guillem, Darcey Bussell and Tamara Rojo.
Pennefather was born in Maidenhead. He started ballet class aged seven and joined The Royal Ballet School as a Junior Associate, later training at Tring Park School and privately with Julie Rose. He returned to The Royal Ballet Upper School and in 1999 graduated into the company after his performance as Albrecht at Holland Park Theatre.
He has worked with many choreographers and has created roles in Marriot’s Sensorium and Ratmansky’s 24 Preludes among others.
As well as co-founding Pennefather Films, he also works as a co-producer and dance consultant.
